La Fiesta’s History

How old is La Fiesta Elementary School?

La Fiesta Elementary School opened its doors in September of 1975 with 23 classrooms.  Our school was built to accommodate Kindergarten through Sixth grade students from a new and growing neighborhood of homes in southern Rohnert Park called “Holiday Park”.

In October of 1973 the school board voted unanimously to name our school LA FIESTA.  (We were almost named Margarite Hahn School)  The name La Fiesta was a suggestion of Mr. Mike Handley’s 6th grade class, from Waldo Rohnert Elementary School.  Many of Mr. Handley’s 6th grade students attended the board meeting to give their choice for the new name.  At that time, La Fiesta was part of a K-6 Petaluma Elementary School District.

Our school was built by Don Dowd Construction for a bid of $48,000.

Three years later, in 1978, La Fiesta became part of the newly created K-12 Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District.

On April 18, 2006, La Fiesta Elementary School was presented the prestigious California Distinguished School Award.  We are so proud of our teachers and staff for achieving this goal.

La Fiesta is now on its 30th year of teaching the children of our community and we are still going strong!
