Superintendent's Update

THE 2004-2005 YEAR GETS OFF TO A GOOD START
AT ALL OF OUR FINE SCHOOLS!

Dear Parents:

Over 7,200 children from kindergarten tots to high school seniors, began their classes on Monday, August 30th in a smooth fashion as Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified began its 2004-2005 school year. We had very few of the usual minor glitches here and there, but overall I am terrifically pleased at the efforts by our teachers, our classified employees and our administrative team to make the first days of school academically rewarding and devoid of major problems.

We are excited to welcome over 50 new employees to our school district. As a result of retirements, and other factors, we are pleased to have many new teachers and support staff join our team to support and enhance student achievement. Our site principals have done an incredible job of interviewing, identifying and recommending a talented group of professional educators.

As we shared with you last year, consistent student attendance is critical for academic achievement and for allowing Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified to maximize the revenues it receives from the State of California to pay for operating the school district. Every day counts! We want all of our students to be present to receive the daily instruction provided by our teaching staff.

We also encourage and welcome your involvement in your child(ren)’s education. Beginning next week, each of our schools will be hosting their annual Back To School Night for parents. These evening are specially designed to inform parents about the educational program for the school year. It is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher(s) and to become involved in your child’s educational experience. We look forward to seeing you at these Back To School Night programs.

All members of the school community are also invited to attend our regularly scheduled Board Meetings. The Board of Education meets monthly, the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. at Creekside Middle School in Rohnert Park. Agendas and minutes of board meetings are available on our website.

As we begin the new school year, we want to provide you with information and assistance to support your child(ren). Our site administrators are prepared to answer your questions and to provide guidance and support as you need it.

Thank you for your on-going support of our schools and our district.
