Vision
El Camino High School provides a learning environment and instructional program that encourages each student to become a successful citizen and life long learner, confidently prepared for the ever changing career world.
Description
There are approximately 150 students enrolled at El Camino most of the time.
The school serves students 16 and over who prefer or need an alternative to the comprehensive high school setting. Most students arrive with credit deficiencies. Students transfer to El Camino throughout the school year. About 50-60 students graduate each year, with another 20 to 30 returning to Rancho Cotate High School to graduate with their class. About a dozen students complete their secondary education each year by passing the California High School Proficiency Examination or the G.E.D. Test.
El Camino High School provides an individual instruction program. There are six teachers, a counselor, and a part-time Resource Specialist. Graduation requirements are the same as those of Rancho Cotate High School. An accelerated program is provided enabling students to make up deficient credits and graduate on time.
Partnerships
The staff of El Camino High School continuously strives to expand partnerships with our community members and resources. Our current partnerships include the following:
Sonoma County Associates for Youth Development (SCAYD) provides counseling services for our students.
The Sonoma County Career Fair is attended by our students each year. Students complete a career oriented curriculum in preparation for the Fair.
There are four methods for earning credits
- Challenging courses: Students who have taken but failed a course may study and then take challenge examinations to pass the course.
- Traditional courses: Students attend courses and earn credit by demonstrating mastery of the curriculum.
- Contract assignments: Students who are attending regularly and working in class may do additional projects and assignments outside of class by arrangement with the teachers.
- Work experience: The school offers a work experience program in which on the job experience, together with guidance counseling earns elective credit for our students.
