Vision

Gold Ridge empowers students, parents and staff by providing a supportive, joyful, safe environment. Diversity is honored and student achievement, mutual cooperation and lifelong learning are emphasized. Gold Ridge students are prepared for 21st century challenges with traditional, innovative and active teaching, a large dedicated volunteer base and the latest technologies.

Description

The academic focus at Gold Ridge is on reading. Students read better by reading more and by learning specific reading strategies. There is a two-tiered reading program made up of the Scholastic reading curriculum and a sequential skills/phonics-based program. Through fund-raising, grants, and PTA donations, every classroom has their own set of reading books which enable students to "practice" reading daily. The library is automated and open at all times encouraging students to check out as many books a week as they wish.

Programs Include:

  • Before and after school on-site daycare with the YMCA.
  • Kindergarten Lunch Bunch. (An extended day program for kindergarten reading)

"Applied Learning Day"

Gold Ridge is proud of their "Applied Learning Day." Students in the fourth and fifth grades apply their school studies to the real world by working as employees for the morning at two of the stores in Mountain Shadows Plaza. Four to six students, with a parent super-visor, "work" in 2 businesses for 40 minutes each. Students can do a variety of tasks such as fill out job applications, use computers, restock shelves, make a bouquet, or package items. The program has grown from 7 businesses to 12 and hopes to involve at least 180 students in the near future.
