In addition to being recognized as a California Distinguished School, Waldo Rohnert's primary multi-age program was honored by Sonoma State University with the 1993 Jack London Award Nomination for Excellence in Education. The school has also received several grants from the Education Foundation of Cotati and Rohnert Park which support the instructional program. In addition, a grant acknowledging Waldo Rohnert's outstanding performing arts program has been approved for three consecutive years by a family owned business in the community. Waldo Rohnert School is dedicated to preparing every child to become a life-long learner and to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Students will be provided with the skills, knowledge, and values to become well-educated adults.
Parent involvement is important in promoting student achievement and a positive school climate. Waldo Rohnert has a School Site Council and a Parent-Teacher-Student Organization which support students and programs. Parents hold a positive view of the school as a caring educational community for children. Parent surveys reflect well on the school's climate for learning, quality of school instruction, and leadership.
Programs Include
- Teacher Diversity Program through Sonoma State University which provides college students as assistants in the classroom
- Part-time dance and music specialist
- School-wide discipline plan
- Weekly assembly to recognize student accomplishments along with a Color Guard Ceremony
- Special traditional events that occur throughout the year such as: multi-cultural observances which include assemblies pertaining to African-American History, Cinco de Mayo, Womens' History, and American History; as well as Family Science Night, Art Day and American History Day
